Evelyn Opatrny Burr (Artistic Collaborator, Dancer, Former Youth Company Member) was born and raised in New York City. She began dancing in elementary school with Dance Adventure, a site specific dance company for young dancers. Evelyn continued dance in middle and high school at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater school and Jessica Lewis Arts Youth Dance Company (YDC) wherein she was a student choreographer, performer, and company director. Evelyn spent her high school years as the Assistant Director of Hamilton Grange Dance Company in Harlem. In this role, Evelyn assisted director, Jessica Lewis in teaching middle school students in modern dance, choreography, and audition preparation for selective fine arts high schools and summer programs. Evelyn graduated from Bard High School Early College Queens with an Associates Degree, and is currently a biology major and dance minor at the University of Delaware, where she choreographs and performs regularly for a variety of choreographers and dance groups. Evelyn has been an active member of the National Honors Society for Dance Arts since 6th grade with Kitchen Dance Collaborative’s Youth Dance Company (formerly Jessica Lewis Arts Youth Dance Company), and continues this membership through the University of Delaware collegiate chapter. Evelyn is excited to be an official member of Kitchen Dance Collaborative, having grown up studying and rehearsing with the company since the age of 11.
